On February 24th, Facebook launched its new reaction emojis where you can “Love,” “Haha,” “Wow,” “Sad,” and “Angry” your friend’s posts. Although this is a fairly new concept for users, this has been a project Facebook has been trying to work on for years. It is no secret that the “like” button does not display intensity of emotions or even empathy. These 6 new additions allow the user to be specific about their feelings and their receiver can have a better understanding of their emotions.
There are 1.442 billion mobile monthly active Facebook users, which is growing at a constant rate. This has led to the difficulty and tediousness of leaving a comment users aren’t always at the comfort of a desktop. People needed a way to leave feedback that was quick, easy, and gesture-based. It has been researched that 70% of communication is non-verbal, and with emojis it becomes easier to be able to portray those non-verbal cues.
Since Facebook is a huge player in social media, how will this affect social media marketing? Businesses will have the luxury of accurately expressing their responses, but most importantly allowing their customers to fully express themselves. Having that information can lead to a better understanding of what they want and need. This will create a more efficient environment that can grow with trends at a faster pace. We thank Facebook for these new reactions for they are an excellent way to help eliminate that gap and helping us businesses work more successfully.
