Digital Marketing. What is it?
Although the term “digital marketing” appears everywhere and is considered an essential part of any business, it only began appearing in the early 1990’s. Digital marketing is a blanket term that can refer to any of the following services: seach engine optimization, social media management, social media advertising, display advertising, retargeting advertising, press releases, email marketing, blog management and pay-per-click advertising. Below are a few definitions of digital marketing services.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): The process of affecting the visibility of a website in a search engine’s unpaid results.
Social Media Management (SMM): Management of blogs, social networks like Instagram or Facebook, and web communities and sites.
Social Media Advertising: Advertising through social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram to increase accuracy to your target segment.
Display Advertising Online advertising that comes in several forms including banner ads, rich media, and more. Unlike text-based ads, display advertising relies on elements such as images, audio, and video to communicate an advertising message
Retargeting Advertising: Tracking who visits a site and displaying retargeted ads to them as they visit other sites.
Press Releases: A public relations announcement issued to the news media and other targeted publications for the purpose of letting the public know of company developments.
Email Marketing: Directly marketing a commercial message to a user. Essentially any email with business intent can be called email marketing.
Blog Management: Publishing original written content relatable to your business to attract qualified traffic and create leads.
Pay-Per-Click Advertising: An internet advertising model used to direct traffic to website. This model allows a business to be put on the top page of search engine results for a price,
Although these are quite a few of terms to begin to understand what digital marketing, it does give you a basic understanding of how it is done. Besides the unpredictability of this industry is what makes it amusing and exciting.
